Hiding emotion prevents its being resolved and cleared from the body. Instead, it lodges in the muscles in the form of tension.
Our parents and teachers have taught us open displays of emotion such as hurt or even being loving, although appropriate for children, are not for adults. This conditioning has resulted in our having learned to mask our feelings as a course of habit. In the process, we have lost sight of our ability to not hide them.
